Contract Disputes Edging Closer To Strikes

Teachers in two of the state’s school districts are edging closer to walking out of classrooms.

Northeast Addison teachers have set a February 9th strike date unless they say school officials return to the table and reach a deal. The teachers’ chief negotiator says they were left with little choice, since they have stayed in their classrooms without a contract for eight months. The school boards voted last month to cut off talks in the dispute.

At the same time, the Burlington Free Press reports South Burlington teachers have set March 2nd as the date for a strike vote in their contract dispute. The school board had been set this week to vote on a resolution imposing job terms but the meeting was canceled because of this week’s snow storm.
