(Host) Construction has begun on the Kingdom Community Wind project on Lowell Mountain.

Green Mountain Power is building the project along with the Vermont Electric Cooperative.

GMP spokeswoman Dorothy Schnure says basic construction is already under way.

(Schnure) "We’re starting construction of the roads that we need to build to put the turbines up and also starting construction of the upgraded construction line between Lowell and Jay."

(Host) The project consists of 21 turbines across the Lowell Mountain ridgeline. It is designed to produce 63 megawatts of electricity, which is about the demand of more than 24-thousand homes.

GMP calls the 150 million dollar Kingdom Community Wind project the most significant renewable generation development in Vermont.

The construction of the turbines is due to be completed by the end of 2012.

The work on the transmission system between Lowell and Jay is separate, but necessary to the wind turbines.
