Community divided on Georgia-Milton wind project

The Vermont Public Service Board is weighing views both pro and con on a wind-power project proposed for a ridge line straddling the line between Milton and Georgia.

More than 150 people turned out for a public hearing on what would be Chittenden County’s first commercial wind farm. The Harrison family wants to erect five wind turbines on Georgia Mountain.

Supporters see the project as a hedge against global climate change, and as a way to protect the state’s maple and ski industries from the effects of global warming.

Opponents say the small amount of power the wind farm would produce is not worth despoiling the ridge line.
