Vermont Commerce Secretary Kevin Dorn will head a committee to explore whether a new multi-purpose arena should be built at the University of Vermont. Governor Jim Douglas says he asked Dorn to lead the 30-member panel, which is to report by early summer on the arena plan.

University President Daniel Fogel has proposed building a new hockey arena with modern amenities. Fogel has said the arena could also host concerts and other events. Douglas says he wants to be sure that a new arena would not take away business from such facilities as the Champlain Valley Exposition and the Flynn Theater.
