Committee Leans Against ATVs On State Land

A legislative committee that reviews rules issued by the executive agencies of state government appears poised to object to one that would allow all-terrain vehicles on state-owned land.

Five of eight members of the Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules say they believe the question of ATVs on state land should be settled by the full Legislature.

Officials with the state Agency of Natural Resources say the rule they proposed – which would allow ATV connector trails across state land, to connect private trail networks – was in keeping with already-passed legislation.

Members of the Legislature’s rules committee are expressing doubt about that. The panel meets tomorrow and the ATV rule is on its agenda.
