Commission asks school to reconsider Indian mascot

The Vermont Human Rights Commission is recommending to school officials in Danville that they stop using their school mascot, an Indian. The commission’s executive director, Robert Appel, wrote to school officials last week. Appel said a family that lives in another town had complained to the commission about the mascot.

He says there’s no law against using the mascot but it might make some people uncomfortable. The Danville School Board discussed the matter at a meeting last night but didn’t take any action.
