Comcast seeks to break ties with access network

Cable television company Comcast is seeking to suspend its relationship with one of the local public access channels serving the Burlington area.

Comcast says the Regional Educational Technology Network, which covers public meetings from Ferrisburgh to Essex, has missed too many deadlines for financial reports and has had discrepancies in those reports.

It also says RETN has made financial decisions without consulting Comcast and carries too much "non-Vermont" programming.

An RETN official calls the complaints trumped up, and says Comcast is looking to end the relationship to save money.

Comcast has filed a petition on the matter with the state Public Service Board.
