Colts Star Garcon Started Out At Norwich

With Superbowl 44 featuring teams from Indianapolis and New Orleans you wouldn’t think there’d be a Vermont connection to the big Game, but au contraire.

The star wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts is Pierre Garcon, and he’s made headlines for his MVP performance against the Jets in this year’s AFC Championship Game, and because he’s from Haiti, a country which for obvious and tragic reasons has been the focus of worldwide attention in recent weeks.

But Garcon also played the first year of his college football career in Vermont, for the Norwich University Cadets.

Shawn McIntyre is now the Cadets’ head football coach, and was assistant coach when Garcon was at Norwich. McIntyre tells VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb it was apparent from the start that Pierre Garcon was a special athlete.
