Firefighters say a college student is lucky to be alive after he became stranded on a rock in the flooded Lamoille River in Johnson.
Officials say 21-year-old Kyle Hughes of Wallingford was rescued Wednesday afternoon by Johnson Fire Department volunteers who reached him with a boat as he clung to a rock at Dog’s Head Falls, a popular but dangerous swimming spot.
Fire Chief Gordon Smith says Hughes was cold but uninjured.
Smith says Hughes slipped into the water and managed to swim to a rock.
Smith tells the Burlington Free Press firefighters regularly train at Dog’s Head Falls. He says that training helped rescue Hughes.
