Club Raising Funds For Long Trail Bridge

Vermont’s Green Mountain Club is working on a new route for the Long Trail, the long-distance hiking trail.

The route would be in Bolton.

The club is issuing a challenge to raise $50,000 for a foot bridge crossing over the Winooski River. It’s already raised more than $500,000.

The club says an anonymous donor has agreed to match every donation up to the $50,000 through the end of August.

The club has sought to establish a safe, appropriate and permanent route for the Long Trail over the Winooski River in Bolton since 1912, when it established the first stretch of the trail from Mt. Mansfield to the river.

The club expects to break ground by June.
