Climate Collaborative searches for mission

The Vermont Climate Collaborative has met for the first time – more than a year after Governor Jim Douglas announced its creation. But the group’s first session produced little consensus about direction.

The 15-member panel, made up of academics, state officials and lay members, is designed to spearhead the state’s efforts to respond to the threat of global climate change.

But at Monday’s session at Vermont Technical College, ideas for tackling the problem ranged from new government investment in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to focusing on public education about the issue.

Meanwhile, while several members work in the same communities as others, 11 of the 15 people who attended drove their own cars to the meeting.
