City budget deficit issue in Rutland mayoral race

A deficit in the city budget has become an issue as the Rutland mayor’s race draws to a close.

The six candidates met for their last debate last night before voters go to the polls on Wednesday.

They were given a chance on a public access television station to pose questions to each other.

Their favorite topic turned out to be the city’s finances, who is responsible for the shortfall and what can be done to fix it.

The six are competing to replace Mayor John Cassarino, who chose not to seek another two year term.
