Circus cancels annual Hanover, NH performance

After 27 years of performing in Hanover, N.H., the Big Apple Circus says it’s not coming this summer, and not for the forseeable future.

Circus officials say the population base of the Upper Valley is too small to produce the size of audience and justify the length of run the circus needs to make it a financially viable venue. The circus had been performing at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, and Hanover was the smallest community in its summer tour.

The Circus’ founding artistic director Paul Binder, a 1963 graduate of Dartmouth College, says that he’s saddened, but understands the circus’s need to make the decision.
