Citizens Bank plans to rename the 27 Charter One Bank branches it’s buying in Vermont. The Rhode Island company also announced it’s appointing an executive to head operations in Vermont. James Keyes has been appointed president of the bank.

Keyes was president and CEO of First Vermont Bank before joining Citizens Bank in 2002 as executive vice president of commercial lending. Citizens reached a deal in 2002 to buy Charter One Bank. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year.
