Chairwoman of Senate Appropriations hits job cuts

An influential Vermont state senator is criticizing the Douglas administration’s plan to cut jobs in the Agency of Human Services.

Sen. Susan Bartlett of Lamoille County is a Democrat who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee. Bartlett is targeting a move to cut five field service specialists who coordinate services for some of the agency’s most challenging clients.

Deputy Administration Secretary Linda McIntire says the decision to include those positions among 150 state government jobs to be cut has not been made final, and that Bartlett’s comments are premature.

But Agency Secretary Cynthia LaWare says the plan is for those jobs to be eliminated, with staffers assigned elsewhere in the agency.
