Another U.S. soldier with Vermont ties has died in Iraq.

The Pentagon says 37-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Jason F. Dene died Sunday of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident in Baghdad on Saturday. Dene, an infantry paratrooper originally from Castleton, was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga.

Dene’s mother is Tisa Farrow, of Castleton, who is a sister of actress and vocal war opponent Mia Farrow.

Dene, who attended Fair Haven Union High School, joined the Army in 1988.

He was on his second tour of duty in Iraq and was to return to the states after the 15-month tour ended June 23. His wife, Judith L. Dene, says he’s a hero who died too young.

He is survived by his wife and three young children.
