Candidates use web site to inform voters

Vermont candidates for office are increasingly taking their campaigns online this year. Nearly every statewide candidate in this year’s election has a web site.

Voters usually can find a greeting from the candidate, a photograph, some position statements, and information on how to volunteer and donate to the candidate’s campaign. More sophisticated candidate web sites include calendars, links to media coverage, and audio or video recordings of their speeches.

The executive director of the Vermont Democratic Party says such web sites used to be a luxury. But Mark Michaud says for many top-of-the-ticket races they’re now considered a necessity.
