Partisan control of the Vermont Senate is expected to be a major campaign issue again this year. Republicans and Democrats are working hard to recruit candidates to run for each of the seats.

The deadline is approaching. Candidates have to file their nominating petitions by July 15 to appear on the primary ballot. Both sides say they’re optimistic about their chances.

Republicans have recruited a number of House members to run for the Senate, including Representative Cathy Voyer in Lamoille County. Democrats also have persuaded some well-known names to get into the race, including former Attorney General Kim Cheney in Washington County.
