The Vermont House has some full days upcoming this week, with health-care legislation, tax and budget bills coming to the floor for debate

On Tuesday, the House is to take up a miscellaneous tax bill that includes a $17 million increase in taxes on hospitals that supporters say will bring in more federal matching funds to support Medicaid. The bill also includes a higher tax on health insurance claims and a 25-cents-a-pack increase in Vermont’s cigarette tax.

On Wednesday, House Speaker Shap Smith says the House will take up a signature piece of legislation for the year – a bill designed to put Vermont on the road to a single-payer health care system.

On Thursday, the 2012 budget will be up for debate.
