Bus passengers notified of possible tuberculosis exposure

Health officials says passengers on a May bus from Boston to Montreal may have been exposed to tuberculosis but it’s unlikely they were infected.

At least some passengers on the trip have been notified that another passenger had the disease.

Doctor Al DeMaria, director of communicable disease control for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, says these types of notifications happen "all the time" and says it’s rare that other people are infected.

Vermont Transit Company officials say the bus drivers have been tested and cleared of the disease.

This spring an Atlanta attorney caused an international health scare after he flew to Europe knowing he had a drug-resistant form of tuberculosis.

DeMaria says there’s nothing about this case that suggests the passenger, who traveled roundtrip in early May, was highly infectious or has a rare kind of tuberculosis.
