Burton’s U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships are moving from Vermont to Colorado.

Vail Mountain said Monday it will host the 31st annual competition late next February and early March, after years of the championships being held at Stratton Mountain in Vermont.

Burton’s chief creative officer tells The Denver Post Burton wanted to have the event at a venue with the amenities, facilities and passion to take the contest to the next level.

Vail marketing director Adam Sutner says the partnership marries two iconic winter brands and allows Vail to reach audiences it doesn’t usually reach.

Vail says it will host the competition at Golden Peak and transform the peak’s base area into a festival-like village with activities including free, live music concerts for riders and spectators.
