Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester has received the largest gift ever made to a secondary school in Vermont.

The school announced today that it’s received a gift of $10 million for Burr and Burton’s endowment fund.

The gift comes from Wendy and Barry Rowland South Londonderry. Barry Rowland is a trustee at the school.

Officials said in a press release that the money will be used for academic progress of the institution, for student learning outside of the classroom, and for unforeseen needs in the future.

Half of the $10 million is in the form of a challenge grant to encourage others to contribute.

Burr and Burton Academy is an independent high school that is the primary high school for Manchester, Dorset and eight other towns.
