Burlington Teacher Contract Under Negotiation

The Burlington School Board and teachers are far apart on a new contract.

The school board wants teachers to take a 5 percent pay cut next year and accept 1.5 percent raises for the two years after that.

The Burlington Free Press says teachers want a three-year contract with raises of 5.5 percent on base pay each year.

The negotiations are still in the early stages.

Board members say they are hearing from constituents who have been laid off or had their pay cut.

Teachers say they are disappointed with the board’s proposals.
