The mayor of Burlington is calling city council together Thursday for a special meeting.

Mayor Bob Kiss proposed an agenda that includes changes to the zoning ordinance for the University of Vermont and Champlain College and for development downtown.

Late Monday night, Democrats on the council voted not to suspend the rule that calls allows the meeting to go past 10:30 p.m. They voted unanimously to go home.

Officials are considering changing the height ordinance to allow commercial buildings to be 20 feet higher downtown.

The proposal would extend the height limit from 105 feet or seven stories to 127 feet or 10 stories.
