Burlington Mayor Bob Kiss will try to negotiate a deal to build a new hotel near the city’s Lake Champlain waterfront.
The city council on Monday authorized Kiss to begin negotiations with the Burlington Harbor Group to build a hotel on Cherry Street.
Opponents argued the city was moving too quickly and hadn’t given other interested developers time to respond.
But city officials say Burlington needs the revenue a new hotel would generate.
