A Burlington attorney who lost his law license for using money from the county Democratic Party for personal expenses is going to be able to practice law again.

Frederick Lane III was disbarred in 2002.

At the time Lane was treasurer for the party’s county committee when he took $2,000  in checks to the party to pay his own bills.

The misconduct was discovered by party officials.

Lane later repaid the money and reported himself to the state’s Professional Responsibility Program.

On May 8 the Vermont Supreme Court reinstated Lane’s license. Officials said Lane had shown remorse and learned from his mistake.

Lane must now complete 20 hours of legal education.
