(Host) Burlington Fire Chief Michael O’Neil has been appointed director of Vermont Emergency Management.

Governor-elect Peter Shumlin says he chose O’Neil because he has broad experience dealing with hazardous waste spills, natural disasters and other emergency situations.

O’Neil also serves as Burlington’s emergency management director.

O’Neil has assisted in major international disasters in the past, including the response to Hurricane Gustav in 2008 and the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year.
