The Burlington City Council is asking Burton Snowboards to meet with members of community organizations upset by some snowboard lines that include images of Playboy centerfolds and self-mutilation.

The council voted 12 to 1 in favor of a resolution calling for the meeting with the Burlington-based company.

City Council President Kurt Wright says the council has a responsibility to put pressure on businesses to do the right thing.

A number of organizations consider the limited-edition Love and Primo snowboards to be offensive. And some ski resorts across the country have banned employees from using them.

The company has defended the boards as artistic free speech, but wouldn’t comment on the city resolution.
