Burlington Council To Vote On Telecom Documents

The Burlington City Council is due to vote on whether to release legal documents between attorneys working for the city about a $17 million loan to Burlington Telecom.

The Burlington Free Press says the Monday vote will be about whether to release documents shared by the city’s regulatory attorney, Bill Ellis, City Attorney Ken Schatz; and the administration of Progressive Mayor Bob Kiss.

Chief Administrative Officer Jonathan Leopold has said he learned last year that Burlington Telecom was required to repay money within 60 days, but neither he nor the city’s attorney notified the City Council until May. The city didn’t notify the Public Service Board until September.

The resolution urging the city to release the documents was initiated by Democrat Ed Adrian.
