The Burlington City Council is expected to approve a new zoning ordinance.

The council has been discussing the ordinance since a draft was released in June.

For the last six months councilors have sponsored more than 50 amendments and debated details.

Some councilors wanted incentives in the ordinance for downtown commercial development while others wanted to use the document to protect what some consider to be Burlington’s small-city charm.

City Council President Kurt Wright says he expects the ordinance to be approved unanimously.
