Burlington Ballot Question Draws Picketers

Ballot question number 5 would raise the minimum percentage in mayoral elections from 40 to 50% to avoid a runoff. Changing the threshold to 50% would make the election system the same as it was under Instant Runoff Voting, which drew a negative reaction from the picketers.

State Representative Kurt Wright is among the proposal’s critics, noting it would be the third change to election rules in 6 years.

The city’s Election Day is scheduled for March 1st.
