Burke looks to manage growth

Officials in the Northeast Kingdom town of Burke say they’re trying to manage the growth they expect with development of the local ski resort.

Ginn Company bought the Burke Mountain ski area a year ago and now has also bought more surrounding land.

Its executives say it will be developing 850 units of housing, a hotel and golf course.

But Burke officials say they want to make sure the growth conforms with what town residents want to see.

So they’re rewriting the town’s master plan and they’re working with a land planning consultant.

A bus trip is planned to resort communities in Stowe and the Mad River Valley later this week so people involved in the effort can understand what other towns have done to accommodate ski area growth.
