The former stepfather of the Randolph girl found dead last week is due in federal court today for a detention hearing on a charge he obstructed justice in the search for 12-year-old Brooke Bennett.

The 40-year-old Ray Gagnon of San Antonio is alleged to have had his Texas roommate throw away his laptop computer that Gagnon told the FBI contained images of child pornography. He has not yet entered a plea to the charge.

Meanwhile, Brooke’s uncle 42-year-old Michael Jacques of Randolph is facing federal kidnapping charges. Prosecutors have said they may seek the death penalty.

Brooke was reported missing June 25. Her body was found a week later.

A witness told police she last saw Brooke with Jacques in his Randolph home.
