Vermont Auditor of Accounts Randy Brock is launching an audit of the state’s Medicaid programs.

Brock says Medicaid expenditures for the fiscal year that just ended June 30th are expected to total $939 million, making it by far the largest expense in state government.

He says the state’s annual compliance audit by his office and an outside accountant in March found that the state didn’t fully comply with federal rules on investigating possible cases of fraud or abuse.

Brock says he thinks the program bears further investigation.
