Brighton Woman Sues To Block Airport Vote

A Brighton woman has filed a lawsuit over a Town Meeting Day vote in favor of selling a small airport to a developer.

Jennifer Hanlon says the non-binding referendum to sell the John Boylan Airport violated Vermont’s open meeting laws. The measure was approved by a vote of 326 to 74.

The Vermont Legislature is considering a bill to sell the airport to a company that would use it as part of an operation to produce wood-pellet fuel, possibly creating more than 150 jobs in the economically challenged Northeast Kingdom.

The Caledonian Record says Brighton officials have not answered Hanlon’s lawsuit.
