Brattleboro woman awarded damages after eviction

A jury says a Brattleboro woman should get a $290,000 award after finding she was unlawfully evicted from her home.

The Windham Superior Court jury found that Denise Brennan should receive the award from both her landlord and the Windham County Sheriff Department, which carried out the eviction.

Brennan’s lawsuit said the document used to evict her from her home in 2001 had not been issued by a court or signed by a judge.

And the complaint says that when Brennan pointed that out to a deputy sheriff she was threatened with arrest.

The attorney for property owner Sandra Glick denied each allegation in Brennan’s lawsuit.

Attorneys for both sides they expect the case to be heard by the Vermont Supreme Court.
