Police in Brattleboro have removed a tent encampment that a local minister says belonged to Occupy Wall Street activists.

In a statement, Brattleboro’s town manager says the police removed abandoned property including protest signs and tents from the Brattleboro Common after several welfare checks determined that the tents were being used for storage. Town manager Barbara Sondag says no one was living in the tents during the welfare checks.

But the Rutland Herald reports that a local minister says the tents were part of local Occupy Wall Street movement protesting economic inequalities.

The Brattleboro Police say the owners of the tents and other property can collect the items from the department.
