There won’t be any school today at the Otter Valley Union High School in Brandon because of a smoky fire in the building yesterday.

The Vermont State Police says the fire in the second floor bathroom was deliberately set and a criminal investigation is under way.

About 700 students were sent home after the fire was reported.

In a message on the school phone system, officials said there would be no school today, although the building would be open in the morning so people can retrieve personal items.

The message said it was unclear if there will be school tomorrow.

Police described the damage as moderate.
