A 16-year-old boy has been charged with killing his father, a Chittenden selectman found shot to death in his home over the weekend, along with two dogs.

Fifty-three-year-old Bernard Congdon was found dead on Saturday, and Vermont State Police say his son, Aaron Congdon, confessed to the killing yesterday.

Police believe the killing occurred Thursday but wasn’t discovered until someone went to his house looking for Congdon and he didn’t answer the door.
Congdon’s son wasn’t home, and his Ford Explorer was gone.

He was found late Saturday at a friend’s house in Rutland and denied any knowledge about his father’s death. But police say that he confessed to the shooting Sunday in an interview with police.

Two guns believed to have been used were found by a man in Mendon, who discovered them on his property.

Aaron Congdon will be arraigned today in Rutland District Court.
