The U.S. Canadian border in Highgate has reopened following the investigation of a suspicious driver and package.
The border crossing was closed for nearly three hours yesterday after border patrol agents discovered a suspicious electronic device in a vehicle traveling from Quebec.
Police say there were also suspicious circumstances surrounding the driver, a 77 year-old-man from Laos, who is a U.S. citizen living in Virginia.
A bomb squad and canine unit were called in.
The item was determined to be a handmade remote electronic transmitter and inverted pottery bowls attacked to a board. Police say the device is believed to be used in gambling.
The driver, who was not identified, was not charged.
