(Host) There are some big plans ahead for the Vermont Service Center in Saint Albans. It expects to hire 300 new workers over the next six to eight months, bringing its steadily growing work force to around 1,500 people. There also are plans to build a third 110,000-square-foot building within the next three years.

These initiatives come as the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service aims to prevent terrorists and other criminals from entering the country. The Vermont Service Center is one of four adjudication processing centers in the United States. It handles a variety of immigration-related applications and petitions.
