Border authorities to meet with Derby Line residents

Border authorities from the United States and Canada are planning to meet today with residents of Derby Line, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec.

The topic is how best to secure the border on three unguarded streets linking the two communities.

The towns have long enjoyed easy back-and-forth access, but the U.S. Border Patrol and Royal Canadian Mounted Police say illegal activity on those streets and in the area is on the rise.

The meeting will be held at the Haskell Free Library and Opera House, which straddles the border.
