A University of Vermont worker was injured yesterday after an explosion inside a boiler at the Gutterson Field House.

UVM spokesman Enrique Corredera says three employees were inspecting a back-up boiler at the sports complex when an explosion caused the door of the boiler to blow open, striking one employee in the head.

The worker’s name and condition were not immediately released, but officials say he suffered serious head lacerations.

After the explosion, the Gutterson Field House and Patrick Gym were evacuated.

UVM officials say the Burlington Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the explosion.
