The former head of Vermont’s largest hospital will have three more weeks of freedom before reporting to prison.

William Boettcher had been ordered to report today to a minimum security prison in Nevada to begin a two-year fraud sentence.

Boettcher pleaded guilty in January to charges that he lied to regulators about the true cost of the Renaissance Project at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Initial estimates were the project would cost $173 million. The final cost will be about $370 million.

On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge William Sessions signed an order giving Boettcher the extra time. The order did not say why the extra time was needed.
