Burlington Mayor Bob Kiss was re-elected to a third term Tuesday – but it took an instant runoff.
Kiss, a Progressive, placed second in the first round of voting, winning 29 percent of the vote to Republican Kurt Wright’s 33 percent.
But after Burlington’s instant runoff voting system counted the second-place preferences of other candidates’ supporters, Kiss vaulted to a win.
In the final round, Kiss had 4,313 votes and Wright got 4,061.
In Rutland, Mayor Christopher Louras also won re-election to a second term. He easily defeated challenger David Trapeni.
