Vermont utility regulators say a wind power developer can re-apply for a permit to build an industrial scale wind turbine on a hilltop not far from the Canadian border in Derby Line.
Last month Encore Redevelopment of Burlington withdrew an application to build two turbines along the border after a public outcry by neighbors in the United States and Canada.
Encore’s Chad Farrell says his company will not seek to erect a turbine on Smugglers Hill about 1,000 feet from the Canadian border.
The Caledonian Record says Farrell is seeking to have state officials extend a standard contract for a turbine on the Grand View Farm turbine, which guarantees that utilities would have to pay a preferential rate for any electricity produced by that turbine.
