The Vermont Air National Guard is appointing a safety board to investigate why a dummy missile fell from an F-16 aircraft yesterday on the runway at the Burlington International Airport.

Lieutenant Colonel Lloyd Goodrow says that until officials can figure out why the missile fell from the plane as it was in its take-off roll, no missiles will be mounted on Vermont Air Guard planes.

Goodrow says the dummy missile was not capable of flying on its own.

The missile fell from the F-16 yesterday afternoon and then skidded about a quarter mile down the runway.

The airport was closed for about a half an hour while Air Guard personnel retrieved the missile and made sure the area was clean of debris.

The plane was not damaged.
