Bill Would Impose Fine For Skiing Out Of Bounds

A Vermont committee is to take testimony on legislation that would impose a $500 fine when someone skis out of bounds and has to be rescued.

State officials say it’s a recurring problem when rescue crews are called out frequently at night in tricky terrain to bring thrill seekers back to safety after they get lost or into trouble.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is to hear Tuesday from representatives of the Vermont Ski Areas Association, the state Department of Public Safety and others.
