Governor Peter Shumlin is supporting a bill to give Vermont companies $2,000 in tax credits for hiring veterans who have returned from a war zone within the past two years.
Shumlin was joined by state lawmakers Saturday at the American Legion Post in Colchester. Shumlin says employment is a way to pay soldiers back for their sacrifices overseas.
Democratic Congressman Peter Welch plans to introduce similar legislation at the federal level that would give companies a $2,400 tax credit for hiring veterans.
