Brattleboro Police say a man has died after riding his bike into a section of road washed out by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene and into a brook.

Police say they got a report at 9:30 Sunday morning of a man’s body in Whetstone Brook. His name has not been released pending notification of relatives.

Investigators believe the victim rode his bicycle around several barricades on Williams Street and fell into a washed-out section of the road and into the stream.

His body has been taken to the Vermont medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
